Where to Find Clip Art and Images – And How to Use Them Without Violating Copyright Laws
By Stephanie Chandler on Jan 25, 2012 with Comments 2
Whether you want to add images to your blog posts or use them in your marketing materials and projects, you
should know that there are copyright laws and rules that apply for images, just like there are protections for written words. Though we can all use Google to locate photos, it doesn’t give us the right to use them. Each image has a copyright owner, and you must be sure to get permission in order to use that image for commercial purposes.
I use a lot of clip art and photos for this blog, and I do so thanks to a monthly subscription to Clipart.com. If you want to include images in your blog, you should consider a service like this one. You can also purchase clip art software from your favorite retailer, though I find that having a subscription service makes life much easier.
Images can also be useful when producing books, PowerPoint presentations, business cards, and marketing collateral. Make sure you purchase and obtain the rights to images you use. Here are some additional sources:
Keep in mind that each of the image retailers have their own rules and guidelines for how you can use an image or how it should be attributed. Be sure to read their guidelines so you stay in compliance!

Great article. I recently learned the importance of copyright and fair use in my digital literacy class. As a blogger, I understand the importance of this subject! I’d also like to add some value for your subscribers by mentioning http://www.creativecommons.org. (I learned this website through my class as well.)
