What is your book about?
HIRED! is designed and written for job seekers to land the job they truly desire. Proven sales techniques are explained and illustrated in true field stories of interviews that went badly as well as those that succeeded. These skills and stories will help our readers better qualify the company with which they intend to interview and more quickly find their best fit to move their career forward.
What inspired you to write your book?
My business plan includes community service – teaching groups of job seekers how to interview better. The final recognition of need for the book came when a friend and I coordinated and hosted a Career and Business Development Fair. Due to the goodwill intended for our new home community, we were given continual cable television advertising at no charge, the Mayor (whom we did not know) agreed to provide opening remarks, and we attracted over 200 people to our event. The outpouring of gratitude led me to believe this is the right time to write the book!
How did you come to do what you’re doing today?
Throughout my sales career, I was always a top producer – even in the early days when I had no clue how to sell! Looking back, I know it was due to my friendly style and perseverance to help my clients.
Upon becoming an entrepreneur-sales trainer, it was evident I needed to establish credibility. All marketing materials suggested writing a book. My first book is entitled “Nice Girls DO Get the Sale: Relationship Building That Gets Results”. It was featured in TIME Magazine and sells worldwide.
It’s very clear to me whenever you make a request or express an opinion, sales skills are a requirement for achieving your goals. I view myself as the messenger for what works and teach others so they too may advance more quickly. Applying sales techniques to all endeavors is the key to success. Accordingly, I incorporate these skills into teaching how to write a book and sell more copies online, and now, how to sell yourself on interviews.
Can you describe a typical day in your life?
Each day, I carve out time to work on expanding my business offerings, connections and developing new venues. Social media takes an hour of time each day (I also have assistance with this) and I make certain to follow-up on requests as well as with prospects and clients. When I write, I try to devote half-days to the particular project in order to finish more quickly.
What do you most enjoy about what you do?
I love the variety of projects before me I finally grasped the concept that anything is possible as long as you put your mind on it to succeed! Life has become far more enjoyable due to the variety and recognizing growth along the way.
Are there any people and/or books that have inspired you along your journey?
One of the most significant changes I made was to join an online collaboration, WhisperingEnergy.com I previously worked by myself. In this case I opened to learning from people around the world and to the prospect of utilizing social media to further business. This model proved to be a strong force and re-energized my business. In fact we have established the Whispering Energy Social Media University in which I contribute business development courses.
Can you share some business tips for our readers?
Always work to build relationships
Talking doesn’t sell but listening does: question, listen and clarify
Begin from the other person’s point of view first
Work to serve others
Adapt your skills for community service to find true reward
Surround yourself with positive minded people
Make a commitment to lifetime education
Be able to communicate with all age levels by knowing what is important to them
Promote others through offering leads or testimonials without being asked
Know your rules for business and stick to them – maintain your integrity
What’s next for you?
My plan is to promote HIRED!, teach at universities, conduct an interviewing webinar series, plus continue to teach how to write books quickly and effectively, and continue building my speaking platform for conventions on topics designed to motivate and inspire.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Questions are welcomed. I am always available for consultation in regard to private coaching, team workshops and corporate sales training. I see another book in the making or three in the future!
