• How to Make Your Website Social Media Friendly

This morning I was surfing around on Twitter which led me to some interesting articles on websites I hadn’t seen before. Incidentally, this is one of my favorite benefits of using Twitter—the fact that it’s easy to find interesting industry articles. So as I’m poking around various websites, as soon as I come across an interesting article, my first instinct is to follow the site on Twitter. But lo and behold, two sites in a row didn’t have any Twitter icons (or other social media links) to be found! What’s even more perplexing is that both sites were writing about web technology.

How to Make Your Website Social Media-Friendly

Here’s the lesson for all of us: Make it easy for your site visitors to connect with you. While not everyone is a rabid social media user, those who are will want to follow your posts on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, etc. If it takes more than ten seconds to locate your social media links, site visitors will move on.

Make sure to add social media icons with links directly to your profiles for all of the major social media sites. Icons should be featured in prime real estate on your site, such as in the header or sidebar, across all pages.

Also, make sure your blog features social sharing buttons so that blog readers can easily share your content on their social networks. All of the major blogging platforms offer social media sharing buttons of some sort. For WordPress users, my current favorite is ShareThis.

    1. Great info Stephanie. Thank you for sharing.

In addition to new Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter links on all your web site pages, put them in your e-mail autosignature. People will read your message, scroll down to the autosignature and find the familiar buttons. They can then click on one of them and get to your landing page.

Putting these buttons in an autosignature makes you look more technology literate. Having them link somewhere will help people connect with you at your preferred media outlets.

    2. Stephanie, since I started following you on Twitter, I have loved all you have written. I am new to the whole world of social media, and I appreciate this article. I am curious how to addthese buttons to the website. Do you have another blog or suggestion on how to do what you have recommended?

      • Hi Brad, Is your blog on WordPress? If not, then you are limited to whatever functionality is available on your blogging platform. I am a big advocate for WordPress so it might even be worth redesigning in order to have more flexibility for your site!

So glad I have found this site. I am a 60 year old (37 mentally) who is just about to realise my ambition of starting my own business, of which media marketing is a large part. I plan to start a blog and twitter on the process to show there is no age limit to creativity. Thanks
